Joy Ride Damages Car In Collins Parking Lot

Pamela Sowder 29 of rural Collins left a 1970 sedan in the Van Dresser Corp. lot at 10 p.m. Friday. The car was found damaged after a suspected joy ride with the purse and keys intact, parked again by 4:30 a.m. Investigators note the locking cog was undamaged and search for the driver.

Inventor claims smokestack cleaner device may end industry smoke

George Hartwick of Zion Illinois says a self cleaning gas and smoke dissipater can emit only clean air and replace smokestacks. His five by seven by twenty foot unit houses a stoker furnace and a dissipator with filters to remove coal smoke tar fly ash and sulfur gas. The Illinois EPA will evaluate the model and Hartwick has notified Sen Charles Percy and State Sen Bill Morris.

Norwalk Hosts Student Government Day May 4

Mayor Wayne Goodsite declares May 4 as Student Government Day with high school students attending city hall. Students in government classes will run mock elections for police and fire chiefs and shadow officials. The afternoon features a mock city council meeting in City Hall council chambers.
