The Nixon administration began a nationwide program to revitalize 20 major cities including Cleveland and Akron. President Nixon announced immediate federal support of 9 million dollars to start revitalizing and rebuilding these riot-damaged neighborhoods.
Across the Jordan River cease-fire line Israeli and Jordanian forces traded artillery and mortars for about 25 minutes. Israel warned it could blockade Aqaba if tensions worsen. A Jordanian spokesman said fire opened on positions east of Abu El-sas Ford and Jordan returned fire. The area lies in the northern Jordan valley near the Sea of Galilee.
An Ashland man Wilson Bill Thomas 56 died when his stake bed truck was struck by a westbound Penn Central train at the U S Route 250 crossing south of Fitchville. The truck stalled while crossing after awaiting an oncoming train. The impact lifted the track and caused a fuel fire.
First degree murder charges filed against Joseph MacDonald and Joanne Daniels for the death of Cleveland detective John Apanites Jr during a theft dispute at Petrie's Dress Shop. The pair were wounded and captured after a gun battle with officers.
Glenn Damron entered an innocent plea at arraignment on a second degree murder indictment returned by the Grand Jury last Wednesday. Judge Robert J. Vetter accepted the plea as Damron, unrepresented in court, seeks new counsel as his family pursues an attorney.

Two boys aged 13 and 14 admitted breaking into Townsend Elementary School after deputies linked a tennis shoe sole pattern to footprints in a storage room. Entry came via a south side fire escape and a jimmied window. Items worth about five dollars were taken and later recovered at a boy’s home. Both youths face Juvenile Court citations.
The Huron County Welfare Department seeks a rate increase after a 10 percent rise in child welfare cases over nine months. Current foster home payments remain $75 for older youths, $60 for grades 1–6, and $50 for preschoolers, unchanged since 1964.
Norwalk City Schools adopted appropriations totaling 2,091,476 for 1969, a 290,476 rise from 1968. Capital outlay grows to 112,200 with 25,000 for land and 300,000 to 400,000 planned to sustain carryover, while salaries top 1,374,450 and teachers retirement leads fixed charges at 137,000.
A 16 year old Altoona girl allegedly tried to take money from a devotions box at St Paul Catholic Church and was jailed with delinquency charges. Edward Butt and James Hartshorn, both charged with delinquency of a minor and giving false information, were arraigned and their cases continued.
Flood workers led by Iowa National Guardsmen and students worked to keep the Little Sioux River from forcing hundreds from their homes in Cherokee. About 30 blocks were flooded and 400 residents evacuated as the crest neared Spencer and Cherokee with a new stage expected to arrive late tonight or Thursday.
