Health Board Hires Sparks Full-Time Health Commissioner

The Huron County Board of Health, led by President Alvin Fritz, hired Dr. Howard Sparks as full time health commissioner at 30000 annually, starting July 1 as his part time post ends. Sparks, based in rural Monroeville, will leave a 15750 salary from his current two-county post while continuing part time in Ottawa County. The vote favored by Corinne Beck Herman Myers and Carl Ellis, with Kathryn Wallace Dr William Graham and Ralph Walcher absent. In other actions the board approved a sludge dumping prohibition without explicit board permission, and set conditions for residents near dumping areas. They also granted Plymouth developer David Pullin partial land parcels contingent on a tile drain and final variance from the regional planning commission. Myers opposed that motion. The board denied a seven acre parcel for drainage reasons and Sanitarian Fred Monroe posted condemned signs at 86 Woodlawn Ave. The Texas owner declined repair.
