Milstead to Leave Norwalk Post for Flying OSP unit

Cpl John Milstead of the Norwalk Post ends 13 years with the State Highway Patrol today. He is reassigned to the aviation division enforcement section, which operates four planes and a helicopter. Milstead, a 1947–began flyer with a commercial license, plans to move his family from Milan to Columbus after school ends.

Lutherans Buy 35 Acre Land Parcel At Benedict Ave

The St Peter Lutheran Church acquired property of more than 35 acres on Benedict Avenue. Deeds from Walter W Hipp and the Leonora Hipp estate were recorded at the Huron County Recorder office. Rhodes Budget Clears Halfway Through Ohio Legislature

Governor James A. Rhodes' 1.4 billion general fund budget for the next two fiscal years has cleared the halfway mark in the Ohio General Assembly. The House passed the appropriations bill Tuesday without changes and sent it to the Senate.

Distribution Begins In Huron County Tax Allocation

County Auditor Bernard F. Kean announced that 2,050,595.77 dollars from the first half collection of real estate inheritance and house trailer taxes are being distributed to the state county townships school districts and municipalities. Abstracts were approved within 48 hours after submission. Advances of 372,300 were issued to some districts after education board requests. Personal tax distribution for June will be the next allocation.

Norwalk Council Tables Zoning Ordinance April 20 Vote

Norwalk city council voted to table the proposed zoning ordinance until April 20 and accepted the Planning and Zoning Commission's recommendation to reject Richard Pflieger's request to rezone 245 Woodlawn Ave from residential to commercial. The commission called the plan spot zoning and Pflieger aims to set up a travel trailer sales site and possible overnight trailer park.

Inspection Underway at Norwalk Landfill in Ohio

An Ohio Department of Health engineer inspects Norwalk’s landfill operation. O C Singer expects to finish the report in about two weeks and submit it to Service Director Morley Price. He inspected the site Monday and returned today for more information.

Tiffin Firm Low Bidder On New Presbyterian Church

Hossler Construction Co of Tiffin submitted the lowest of four bids for the First United Presbyterian Church project. Base bid for sanctuary and education building was 492750 dollars. total project bid including gymnasium, parking, walks and canopies was 496000 dollars. Architect firms from Toledo, Sanborn Steketee Ois and Evans, prepared the plans as the congregation prepares to decide which phases to fund.

Indictment In Liuzzo Case Involving Klansmen

Three Ku Klux Klansmen were indicted by a federal grand jury in Birmingham tied to the murder of Mrs. Viola Liuzzo. The case remains under wraps as officials withheld names until arrest. Car Wash Planned on Franklin Street by Price Construction

Robert Price, president of Price Construction Co., announced after the Norwalk city council meeting that a new four bay coin operated mechanical car wash will be built on the G. F. Stewart property on Franklin Street. Three bays will be do it yourself with one full service bay. construction will start after permits and land already owned are ready. Estimated project cost excludes land at about 30 000 dollars.

Monroeville School Bus Breaks Down Near Norwalk

Twenty Monroeville students were stranded when a bus failed on Old Route 20 west of Norwalk. Mrs. Paul Riley ferried eight kids home in her car. a second bus was sent for the rest. Monroeville Schools seeks a replacement 1951 GMC with over 100,000 miles. Virginia Van Fleet, the driver, stands by as the bus is towed.
