Truck crash ignites trailer fire injures PA man

A 23 year old Pennsylvania man Joseph W. Boromes of West Mifflin suffered severe burns when his pickup hauling a house trailer burst into flames on the turnpike eight miles northeast of Bellevue at 12 15 am. The trailer uncoupled and gas tank puncture started the blaze. another driver pulled Boromes from the wreckage and he was listed in satisfactory condition at Fisher Titus hospital.

Union optimistic on end to Norwalk wildcat strike at Superior Coach

Sherald Morgan president of UAW Local 1379 in Norwalk said he hopes to announce a solution by Wednesday morning. He noted ongoing efforts to end the two day plant walkout tied to contract rereopening provisions and a March 31 strike deadline. Local officers cited mis understanding over the contract clause as the root cause.

Motel Plan Proposed for Berlin Township Zoning Change

A 12 unit motel plan was presented to the Berlin Township Zoning Board by Mr and Mrs Leroy Lorton. They seek to rezone land along Lake Road from residential to business usage currently hosting tourist cabins and a drive in restaurant. Board members favored the project in principle and would consult the county prosecutor before ruling.

Seventh grader Patti Cassidy hurt in family slayings

Pattie Cassidy, 12, is in critical condition with head injuries after her parents were killed in Milan. Erie County Sheriff Albert Hess says Pattie’s recovery may decide the case, as deputies search a three mile radius with little progress. The Milan community, including students and relatives, prays for her and for answers.

County OKs Housing Loan for Huron Authority

The Huron County Board of Commissioners approved a $2 500 interest free loan to the Huron Housing Authority to fund operations until a federal grant arrives. Funds will cover incidental expenses and the salary of a part time director once hired.

Ward Swisher of Milan, 52, treated at Fisher-Titus hospital Monday for facial burns after a welding unit he used caught fire. Victoria Bressler, 45, of Sandusky, treated at Fisher-Titus after catching her finger in a machine at Clevite-Harris Corp. Monday.
