Board Grants Race Count and Bus Plan for Schools

The board released a racial head count showing Austin High near 50 percent Black and district gains in colored populations. It approved bussing about 130 May and Spencer students to Northwest Side schools to meet a 534 quota, and discussed a planned 12 room demountable unit at Emmet to ease overcrowding. Parents and critics argued busing is a stopgap. some urge moving Emmet pupils to further north schools with space.

TB in Chicago 1967 Active Cases and Deaths Report

The report traces 1967 TB activity in Chicago with 733 active cases among whites and non whites, 1967 deaths total 196, and 45 plus age group accounting for 49 percent of new cases. Males dominate both cases and deaths, with 75 percent of deaths in men and 147 over 45. The city’s case rate rises to 56 per 100 000.
