Meanest Thief Again Robs Sam The Penny Man

Sam Horwitz known as The Penny Man reports two break ins in the same city block. The thief stole 800 pennies saved for local penny parties and looted candy, refrigerator items, and left onions. Horwitz returned home early, preventing further losses.

Citizens zoning group to meet Mayor Daley July 12

Fifteen members of the clearinghouse on zoning, an alliance representing 41 community organizations, will meet Mayor Daley in his office on July 12. Raymond Knepplinger, zoning chairman of the Organization of Northwest Communities, is among the representatives. They will request the Mayor appoint a citizen advisory zoning committee with consultant status to various city agencies including the Department of Development and Planning.

Community groups join to halt panic peddling by realty firm

Northwest Community Organization and the Organization for a Better Austin joined forces to protest Keleny Realty on the West Northwest Side. They picketed offices at 4534 N Lincoln and planned court action if they could obtain solid evidence of panic peddling. A CBS report described an agent hinting a neighbor would sell to prompt quick moves.

Tuley High School opens Higher Education Guidance Center

Guidance Center at Tuley High announces a new Higher Education Guidance center for post high school study. Open daily 8 am to 2 30 pm with counselors Miss OBrien and Mr Ryan available for assistance. The program offers information on scholarships grants up to 1100 dollars and aid potential including technical training apprenticeship and work study. Champ at Work Shank Represents Simons Park in Hoop Finals

Cynthia Shank of Simons Park tied for first in the under 10 division at the McKinley Park citywide finals. Rose Warren of Shedd Park also shared the top spot as over 500 youngsters competed locally and 20 advanced to the finals in this Chicago Park District sponsored tournament.

Jehovah's Witnesses hold district convention in Milwaukee

More than 100 Jehovah's Witnesses from Humboldt Park will attend a four day district convention at County Stadium Milwaukee organized by Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. Edward Arnold says local meetings are canceled and 20000 delegates from Wisconsin Illinois Minnesota Michigan and Iowa are expected. 1200 volunteers arranged housing and a cafeteria will feed 50000 meals over the event.

Logan Offers Free Swim Class At Local YMCA

The Logan Square YMCA announces summer swimming lessons in partnership with Mayor Daley’s youth welfare commission. Programs include Minnow 1 and 2 for beginners, Tiny Tots for ages 3 to 7, open and youth recreation swims, plus family and splash party times with limited class sizes and first come first served reservations.

Marine Cpl Thomas EF Krupa, 24, is soon to return from Vietnam and be honored with a champagne party by his parents Mr and Mrs Edward T Krupa of 3439 Beach. His family and four sisters including Mrs Barbara Ripple Carolyn Patricia and Mrs Christine Furnett will join elder brother Lawrence in greeting him expected around July Fourth after a year and a half away. Krupa, a Wright Junior College alum and Foreman High graduate, enlisted in 1966.
