ONC Congress hears opposition to busing plan at Blackhawk Park

Delegates to the Organization of Northwest Communities meeting at Blackhawk Park hear strong opposition to a proposed busing plan. A majority show of hands signals dissent as several speakers urge city officials to consider community voice. A follow up session is set for Riis Park on Jan 18 with schools in mind.

Robbers Bust Hole to Deliver Cash Then Flee Wall

In a daring raid, two women, Mrs Natalie Schneider and Elsie Congiusti, were handcuffed together when robbers blasted a hole through a wall to take money. The suspects fled back through the wall and out the back door of the vacant store.

Block Parents program seeks more volunteers at Stowe PTA

Navy Initiation Onboard USS Intrepid Crosses the Equator

Seaman James M. Urganus USN son of Mr and Mrs Michael L Urganus of 5456 Wrightwood is among 3200 sailors aboard the USS Intrepid in a traditional equator crossing initiation. Intrepid recently completed her second deployment off North Vietnam and is a three time winner of the Navy’s Battle Efficiency award.

Volunteers Learn Hospital Chores at Illinois Masonic

Betty Baker and Pat Wozniak seniors from Kelvyn Park High volunteer at Illinois Masonic Hospital each Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. They were advised by Dr. Joseph Caliendo to become candystripers to learn the hospital environment and completed classes on bed baths linens temperature and patient care before floor work.
