Residents on the West Side report fear and sparse activity after dark due to gangs of juveniles. They blame lax courts and limited police power, recounting a night assault where two youths, 14, were released with little consequence, prompting cries for stronger action to prevent deadly outcomes.
Patrick Gross of 1929 N. Karlov is Community Publications first Carrier Boy of the Week and may win a new bicycle. He delivers the Northwest Journal on a route bordered by Cortland Armitage Karlov and Tripp while a Weber High School freshman.

Nominations for offices will be accepted drafts of the constitution may be revised and membership applications taken.
Robert C. McGlynn, 44, died after being dragged about 70 feet by a wildly speeding car that struck him on the Ridgeway sidewalk near his home. Three men were arrested after reporting the vehicle stolen. charges include leaving the scene, assault with alcohol influence, and crimes related to the car sale. Funeral details and survivors noted.
The Stowe PTA asks the board for additional facilities at Stowe Elementary 3444 Wahansia including a lunchroom mobile units on 3500 W. Wabansia site, urgent restroom repairs, and new classrooms after enrollment rose to 1375.
A Christmas pageant featuring carols and costumes of many nations will be staged at Our Lady of the Angels church Hamlin and Iowa 8 p.m. Sunday by the Liturgy group. Proceeds go to the parish building fund. Pageant director is Anthony Abbatiel lo and assistant Enrico Clausi.
