Crime statistics show mixed results across police districts

Police Superintendent James B. Conlisk Jr reports an 11.4 percent drop in serious crimes for the eighth period (July 20 to Aug 16) versus 1966, with a 1 percent year to date rise through eight periods. Rape up 4.2 percent. homicides up 23.5 percent. robberies down 1.1 percent. Fillmore up 10.4 percent for the eighth period. Shakespeare up 8.7 percent. Austin up 18.1 percent for the eighth period. Cumulative trends remain near the year low.

Crime Stop Award Given Area Man

Lewis Richtiger manager of a currency exchange received the police department’s Citizen Award of Appreciation for helping arrest a woman and two men in a May theft ring. He suspected the woman trying to cash an $88.64 internal revenue refund check and alerted police, who captured two suspects while a third fled.

Newman Congress Draws 800 Delegates To DeKalb

Area Youth Aids Newman Club reports Frank Bisceglie of 3530 Hirsch chairs publicity and serves on transportation for the 52nd National Newman Congress in DeKalb Illinois.
