Tornado Warning Drenches City Park as Storm Unfolds

A Chicago area storm produced ominous green clouds and layered circling bands. People watched from a schoolyard and nearby yard as trees fell and four inches of rain flooded the playground while air raid sirens sounded in Oak Park.

Hold Services For Father Of Ald. Sande

Funeral services for Birger E. Sande 85 father of Ald Rex Sande of the 34th ward will be held 2 p.m. today in the chapel at 4338 Fullerton with private interment. A retired plumber of 3501 Wrightwood he died after a heart attack Saturday night while singing with a Norwegian American group at the Normennenes Singing Society 2012 N Kedzie. He was a past president of the Norwegian Singers Association of America and honorary president of Normennenes and had ties to Bjornson Male Chorus Bjorgvin Singing Society. Survivors include another son Erling a daughter Mrs Ella Olsen two grandchildren five great grandchildren two brothers and a sister in Norway.

Catholic Schools See Little Change in Area Enrollment for 1968

Archdiocesan figures show similar enrollments in four West Northwest Side high schools and 14 elementary schools for the 1968-69 year starting Sept 4. Resurrection shows a notable rise to 677, while Providence and St Mel merge to form a coeducational high school with 155 freshmen. Total citywide elementary enrollment is projected around 330000, up from 265000 in 1967.

Little Miss Peanut crowned in Logan Square Kiwanis pageant

Barbara Uchanski named winner of the annual Little Miss Peanut contest sponsored by the Logan Square Kiwanis club. The 6 to 8 year old represents the club for Peanut Day sales supporting youth projects. Corrine Gutierrez was runner up. Kiwanians A. O. Nicolette and Hilmar Sachse attended with the participants as master of ceremonies and club director.

Chicago students start new careers in Ford dealer programs

One hundred Chicago area high school students from Prosser Westinghouse and other schools begin a first in the nation cooperative training with Ford. Students split time between classrooms and paid hands on work at Ford, Lincoln Mercury, and local dealers, gaining automotive service experience and job placement support.
