Homecoming Day Draws 700 Soldiers and Sailors
Seven hundred veterans attended a city homecoming celebrated by Cantery ladies and the Sammy Girls with a chicken dinner at the park, races at the track, a dance, and a post event supper. Governor McKelvie spoke, and most veterans wore uniforms, enhancing the public display. The Sammy Girls funded race tickets and the dance.

A mob overran the county jail in Omaha on a Sunday night dragging William Brown and storming the courthouse. A mayor was dragged to a pole, shot, and the city faced fires, casualties, and martial law with Troops from Fort Omaha patrolling as fires destroyed records and authorities struggled to contain the violence.

Harry Horahey longtime Lincoln County resident died in Oklahoma City last Saturday after a paralytic stroke. He lived in Hershey moved to North Platte with W A Paxton, then to Olathe and finally Oklahoma City. He leaves a wife, daughter and son and was remembered as progressive and of Christian character.

Governor McKelvie attended the homecoming Saturday with Swope Souder and Durbin then traveled to McPherson county Sunday. Reports of Omaha mob violence prompted Lieut Governor Barrows to seek federal troops and 200 regulars from Ft. Crook were deployed with more to follow from Ft. Grant and Ft. Leavenworth. McKelvie called the Omaha mob a black eye for Nebraska and returned to town yesterday before leaving for Omaha. The North Platte booth drew nearly two thousand guessers at the county fair for the weight of a flour sack with Edith McLean of North Platte making the sole exact guess. Contestants hailed from North Platte and beyond including Iowa Missouri Kansas Colorado Wyoming Nebraska. Mrs C L Lewis won the bread baking contest with Andy Yost in second place. Two thousand mixing spoons were awarded to ladies on Saturday as the booth touts Cow Brand flour and urges support for North Platte milling.
