Record freight day on Union Pacific Third district
Last Wednesday set a record for freight on the Union Pacific Third district. In twenty four hours 38 freight trains left local yards with 23 engines and an average engine mileage of 207 miles. Nineteen westbound trains brought 998 loaded and eight empty cars, about 2580 tons per train. Travel time Sidney to North Platte 128 miles was four hours fifty five minutes. Nineteen westbound trains carried 395 loads and 616 empty cars, averaging 1420 tons per train. Total cars handled: 2008.

Arrest of Mexican booze peddler at the Commercial House
Sheriff Salisbury arrested Jove Padilla at the Commercial House on charges of possessing and offering Yellowstone liquor for sale at five dollars a pint. Twenty five labeled bottles were found, with fittings concealed in a jacket and bed clothing. Padilla remains jailed with a hearing pending and officials expect a drop in imports and a price rise to seven fifty per pint.
