Officials confirm Roosevelt will not travel to North Platte, with Kearney set as the western turning point. Mayor Walker had sought confirmation from Senator Millard, who advised the president would not go as far west as North Platte.
Hay shipments this week will be heavy as cutting and stacking finish. Prices range five fifty to six dollars per ton with strong western demand unlikely to rise much. Lincoln county reports its heaviest hay crop in years, boosting revenue for hay men and merchants. Harrington notes twenty baling machines active, plus existing ones, each averaging ten tons per day.
On September 12, 1902 the county board audited and allowed claims for bridge work including H F Kellner 140 for a jetty at the North River bridge and Fred Tobas 1400 for bridge work. Wm Johnson also billed for Brady Island bridge work. The day ended with an inspection of the county jail and out buildings before adjournment to tomorrow.
Republican conventions at Ogalalla nominated W D Giffin of Gothenburg for state senator and Geo C McAllister of Chappell for representative. Giffin won on the third ballot after shifts from Raymond, Patterson, Goodall and others. Delegates endorsed party principles honoring McKinley and Roosevelt.
We support President Roosevelt on trust regulation and pledge voters of this district to back the convention nominee for state and federal offices. We commend the state's economical administration, denounce unpatriotic assaults on soldiers and sailors, and pledge to help elect a Republican to Congress from the Big Sixth.
Seeberger and Co A Os running four hay balers in the valley while J A Hershey and J K Ashie man sell hay to Ha Lros Velverde Col. Charles Toillion and J V Robinson depart for Cuorwith Iowa to scout locations then travel north on the river for a similar purpose. J B Toillion and W R Brooke visit North Platte, selling M C Harrington fifty tons of wild hay at six dollars a ton. Seeberger and Co buy P E Erickson and L P Krong hay at Nichola to be loaded there. Last Monday patrons receive August butter fat checks at Nichola creamery. Wild ducks and hunters abound. J G Fee keo builds steam threshing business near Gothenburg. Seeberger and Co plan to ship 400 tons of baled alfalfa this season. W H H Null and wife visit, take five young heifers home from Char Toillion.
