Four Black men and one white man were arrested for shooting craps in a shack at Seventh and Willow. Wm McIntosh known as Doc and others Jerry Hilcott J E Hall J W Williams and Lewis Bennett also called Sunnybrook faced Police Judge Elder, pled guilty, and received fines and jail terms based on funds. Bennett, cited for bootlegging, drew a $50 fine and 30 days in jail.
By order of the referee in bankruptcy, on Saturday September eighteenth at 10 o clock a m at the office of Hon Walter V Hoagland the remaining assets of the U S Grocery bankrupt including judgments notes and open book accounts will be offered to the highest bidder for cash. A list can be seen at the referee 39s office or by application to the undersigned.

A transcontinental automobile relay race will start Saturday morning from the Daily Press building in Philadelphia carrying a Taft to Chilberg message for the Yukon exposition in Seattle. Thirty one relay stations include North Platte with cars racing day and night. The North Platte to Cheyenne leg is likely to see the next car sent from that city.
Sheriff Miltenberger acted on a Scotts Bluff directive to arrest C A Nelson on alleged fake pretenses linked to the Hershey alfalfa meal mill. Nelson, active around North Platte and Hershey, left for California after telegraphs to seize his car. Hoagland had already fled with the vehicle toward Kansas City. Further mill case developments are anticipated.
Julius Kruttechnitz states Harriman lines will buy many new freight cars refrigerators and steel cars this season to meet next year’s expected business. Led by expert millman Lemmer the facility now produces flour of top quality at low prices, encouraging households to choose North Platte brand. Theo Totenbol returns from Philadelphia after inspecting boilers or locomotives ordered by the Union Pacific from Baldwin works.
Agent Byrne states Union Pacific will begin laying the Lexington to North Pistoe double track around October 1. Grading contractors are ordered to finish by next month as part of speeding trains and reducing traffic congestion. The Watson to Lexington segment is not expected to be ready until next year. Material shipments and temporary car houses will support construction, with completion to the Platte by January 1, 1910.
All trains on the Union Pacific system paused for one minute at 1 30 Sunday afternoon by orders of General Manager Mohler during the funeral of the late E H Harriman. No wheels moved during the period, regardless of location.
