North Platte total 1070 men aged 18 to 47 registered with 442 yesterday and 628 prior days. Third Ward led with 208 registrants, followed by Second Ward 62 and Fourth Ward 80. About 50 registrants were non residents. Lincoln County expected at least 3000 total registrations. Uncle Sam Wants Fruit Stones for Gas Masks
North Platte residents are urged to donate fruit stones and nut shells for carbon needed to manufacture gas mask filters. A barrel at the center entrance collects peach pits apricot stones and other pits to supply the Gas Defence Vision of the Chemical Warfare Service. Each mask requires about seven pounds of nut shells or two hundred peach stones, a civilian effort to aid soldiers in wartime.
