City schools opened with high school enrollment at 220, twenty nine above seating capacity. Boy Hurts Foot in Hay Rake Accident Near Town
Carl Broeder and his son were in town after a hay rake incident on the Broeder farm southwest of town. The boy was thrown under the rake when the team ran away, a tooth cut his leg deeply and he suffered bruises. A coal yard worker’s son also fell from a car and sustained severe cuts to hands and wrists before being treated by a physician.

Death of Mrs Anna Baggott Simants in Lewellen accident
Mrs Anna Baggott Simants aged twenty three died after a speeder collision between Lewellen and Liseo. A large car crossed the track and tipped the speeder injuring occupants. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs J W Baggott and wife of George Simants. Funeral held at residence.
