Rumors say Lincoln county commissioners may seek a bond issue to finish the new county court house. No official amount or plan is set, but talks with architect Berlinghof and contractor McMichael hint at roofing and interior changes while voters historically defeated bonds.
A Salt Lake City dispatch reports Union Pacific and the Shop Employees association reached a wage agreement with promotion ladders and higher rates than the railroad labor board. Effective Sept 1, 1922, skilled rates rise to 76 80 85 and 96 cents per hour. helpers earn 49 cents. seniors retain top rank. Paving on West Sixth Street begins with crossing removals and dirt removal by caterpillar and rotary shovel.
Firemen push back the Pone Fall Festival from September 2 to September 22 due to extreme heat and weak ticket sales. The event aims to raise funds to support their state convention attendance in January and now aligns with the County Fair to boost interest.
A group of Rotarians and families spent Wednesday evening at the scout camp west of the city. About twenty-five scouts enjoyed a campfire, songs led by R. D. Birge, and confections. A radio demonstration by C. R. Morey failed due to static as Scout Executive Stephens planned to break camp today or tomorrow.
The North Platte Womans club opens its year with a Get Together banquet at the Methodist church next Monday evening. Announcements for the year will be made and the membership committee reports almost 150 paid members. the list stays open through Monday evening for any interested lady to join.
John Southall came back yesterday from a three month Europe trip spending time in France Ireland and England. He denies bringing home a bride and says unemployment is worse in England than in the United States.
A large crowd gathered on the courthouse lawn for an outdoor meeting of the striking shop crafts. Ed Barraclough chaired the strike committee and introduced Rev. B. J. Minort of the First Baptist Church of Alliance, who has lent his church as the strikers’ head quarters. He spoke forcefully, drawing laughter and cheers, as local business people covered the speaker’s expenses.
Sioux Lookout Chapter D A R and families picnicked Tuesday evening at the Experimental substation lawn. Mr and Mrs Snyder and Mr and Mrs Zook helped, lunch for about eighty included fried chicken salads baked beans sandwiches pie cake ice tea and coffee. A petition signed by twenty six property owners to pave south Chafey street from third to the irrigation ditch was filed with city clerk O B Elder. Arthur Reynolds and daughter Margaret returned from Wyoming and will stay locally for school.
The Lincoln county Fair dates set for September 19 through 22 with premium lists available from secretary S. M. Souder. A divorce application has been filed by Emia Ohl against Walter Ohl citing drunkenness and cruelty. Poultry and stock judging teams, led by Rh. Ro Morris and including Violet Fletcher, Bernard Levitt, George Koch, and Osse Ross, prepare for Lincoln events and State Fair attendance.
Union Pacific operator M J Corcoran was fatally injured when the car he rode in at Chappell overturned breaking his leg and crushing his skull. He died at Platte Valley hospital yesterday morning at 4. Burial planned in Ionic Michigan. Judge Woodhurst returned from Mooseheart Illinois after attending the Loyal Order of Moose national convention.
