Fairbury held a special election Tuesday to license six saloons by a 169 vote majority, ending a dry status from last year. Dixon’s Special Price Sale promotes leather hand bags Friday through Tuesday, with four days of discounts starting Friday at 9 am. Walter announces Republican bid for county treasurer, a Wallace resident and former county commissioner praised for business acumen and integrity.
Local notes span visits and moves among Greeson Patterson Bonner Morrill McNamara Zentmeyer Dill LeDoyt Stinchcomb and others. Encampment attendance at Kearney, Lincoln Club excursion impressions, ore club dinners and a legal hearing sentencing a Memphis auto case. High school cadets depart for Gothenburg camp. A new financial institution to be known as Plate Valley State Bank will launch in North Platte around August 1. Officers elected include President Plelaticker, Vice President Pizer, Cashier Scott, Assistant Cashier Mehlman, and directors Beeler Payne Waller Liston and Mehlman. Capital capped at 100000 with 50000 paid in. The former Small’s Shoe Store space will host the bank after furnishings arrive.
A Lincoln Trade Review piece urges residents to buy locally in Nebraska and support state manufacturers to boost wealth, jobs, and tax base. It argues home patronage creates reciprocal gains, strengthens communities, and could double manufacturing and job growth with state-focused purchasing. A second note reports Congressmen Hobson introducing two national highway bills, one along the 35th parallel and another from Canada to Mexico along the 23rd meridian.
