R N Lamb awards Clyde McMichael a contract of sixteen thousand dollars to erect a new 44 by 124 foot two story building on North Locust street. Brotherhood Members Debate War as Exemptions Highlight Draft
Thirty members of Methodist and Presbyterian brotherhoods gathered at the Presbyterian basement for a lively debate on whether the United States should send troops to France. Opponents included W V Hoagland and W E Shu man while M B Cros by F L Mooney and E J VanDer hoof spoke for the war. The session lasted about ninety minutes, ending with refreshments. Latest recruits to Company E are Earl Carlton and Fred Peterson. Carlton works as a shoemaker and Peterson as a post office clerk exempt from draft but joining the colors. A dedication program is planned for St Patrick s School later this month. Mrs EB R Palmer left for Cheyenne yesterday.

Bridge Election Day Pushes Bond Vote In City
A special election is held today on issuing 10000 in bonds to finance a steel or concrete river bridge south of town. The bridge's 40000 cost will be shared by the state and south precincts, with north precincts contributing a quarter. South precincts favor the bond. repairs on the current bridge are costly and rising. A new bridge would save taxpayer money. voters urged to cast ballots this afternoon.

R J Dill of the U P freight house handed out cigars this morning for the arrival of a baby girl at his home. All concerned are doing nicely. W L Holderness left today for Chimney Rock on business.

Ten young men from North Platte leave for Omaha to take the Navy examination after enlisting yesterday through Loren Haastings the recruiting officer. Names listed include Amos Knoer John Gelee Clarence Dooley Harley Dooley Harry Calkins Stanley Griffin Albert Nelson John Deckman Delmore Dory and Bradley. The town’s enlistments compare with other towns in total joining the regular army navy Company E and with the officers training corps.

Bread Prices Rise As Bakers Cite Higher Costs
Bread prices were increased on Wednesday with the two sleed loaves at fifteen and twenty cents. The fifteen cent loaf weighs sixteen ounces and the twenty cent loaf twenty-two ounces. Flour cost per barrel has risen by 34.60 since the last advance. Bakers claim they were losing money on each loaf and say the size was enlarged and a nickel added at both sites to survive in business. They warn the rise may curb bread sales.
Cahill seeks habeas corpus to gain custody of Cahill children
Mabel Cahill of Hershey files a habeas corpus petition in the district court asking for possession of nine year old George Cahill and four year old Serene Cahill. She claims Edward Cahill father has neglected support and that the children are treated unkindly by Paul and Frank Cahill. She asserts she is healthy and able to provide a good home.
