A large group of Illinois Central clerks engineers and other staff propose donating one or more days pay to help repair tornado and flood damage. Vice President W L Park declines praising their patriotic loyalty and self abnegation as unparalleled in railroad history.
City ordinance 10 254 makes anyone under 17 illegal on public streets or alleys after 9 p m unless with parent guardian or on a lawful errand. State law also prohibits under 16 from running automobiles in city limits. Enforced by the Chief of Police.
The Presbyterian church observed Mothers Day last Sunday with a crowded service. The Ladies Aid gave each person a large white carnation. The choir sang mother songs as the congregation joined in Tell Mother I’ll Be There and Home Sweet Home, leaving many with tears. Attendees called the service the most impressive they had ever attended.
Cabbages tomatoes and sweet potatoes sold at 60c per 100. Express paid. Orders filled promptly by Clyde Shallenbrouk of Hershey Nebraska.
Mrs. Ernest Boyd and her children have returned home after spending several weeks in Cozad with relatives.
A roundup of residents traveling and visiting relatives in nearby cities. Miss Elsie Langford in Ogalalla, Miss Irene McGee with relatives in Brady, Mrs. Sara Holden visiting friends in Ogalalla, and others from Omaha to Denver. Several returns from trips to Excelsior Springs, Ogallala, and surrounding areas noted.
The daily paper disclosed that Albert D. Cashier, long believed male, was a woman who served in the same company as Capt. James S. Robbins of Wallace. She enlisted around age twenty, marched bravely, and was mustered out in 1865 before later receiving a government pension. Now a demented inmate at the Soldiers' Home in Quincy, Illinois.
The Mutual Building and Loan Association reports assets over a half million dollars and plans to issue limited paid up stock at six percent interest, withdrawable on thirty days notice. President T. C. Patterson and Secretary Samuel Goozen lead, with Garlick musical at hall and school band plans noted. Brady Vinal travels to Omaha for state medical meeting. Mrs. Cox returns home from Sutherland.
Local residents keep busy with travel visits and family events. Rev. and Mrs. Charles Chapman moved Cincinnati bound after the death of his father. Several locals plan trips to Omaha Hastings Paxton and St. Joe. Clergy and educators from the area attend events in Hastings and Peru. Farmers bring autos to town despite heavy roads as Nor th Platte hosts gatherings and visits.
County Superintendent Cleo Chappell appeals for host placements in June and July for several needy young women seeking room and board during the Junior Normal. The effort aims to provide lodging or partial pay arrangements to assist in securing junior college work.
Edward Muleshy, once of this city, arrived from Cheyenne on Saturday to see friends. Russell departed Saturday morning for Omaha to visit his wife, who is undergoing treatment in a hospital there.
