Washington reports conferees reached agreement on the army measure social controls preserved and the draft age fixed at 21 to 30 inclusive replacing prior 21 to 27 and 21 to 40. The Roosevelt division request and three volunteer regiments for border duty were dropped. Marines and morals protections kept.
Attorney W T Wilcox left for Bridgeport to transact business. Miss Amelia Bonner of Hastings visits her sister Mia. Faye Dinas of Artivwir visits his daughter this week. Victor Halligan, Wm H Haner, Pan Ohman, Geo M Davies and Cecil Cool of North Platte received notice of admission to the officers' training camp at Fort Snelling Minnesota. They are among the first 1500 admitted with 1000 more to be accepted later. The five were graded A by examiners and must report by May 6. Davies Messia and Oliman are high school faculty members. Since this was written Robt Gantt has also been accepted.
The Junior gardens program directs school children under ten to grow rural beans and beets. Each child receives a defined area for cultivation, with an older person supervising preparation, and entries are requested by mail to Posteffles Box 296, City.
At Governor Nevilles suggestion a County Defense Council will be organized in North Platte next Monday evening. The council aims to assist the State Council on food production and other wartime needs. A meeting for organizing the council will be held in the Presbyterian church basement Monday evening, with Rowena Circle serving beforehand. All city and county residents are urged to attend.
The Merry Milkmaids a singing musical by the high school glee clubs presents at Franklin auditorium tonight. The show features over twenty characters plus a chorus and opens at 8 15.
There will be a special meeting of the W. HC on Saturday at three o'clock in the IOOF hall. The meeting aims to initiate candidates and approve expenses for delegates to the convention. By order of the President.

M C Harrington formerly of this city and now of Denver will enter the U S Army as a major in the quartermaster's department after last summer's qualification. He is subject to five days' notice and likely to report soon, possibly at Omaha or Fort Riley.

William F Gates a pioneer resident and Civil War veteran died yesterday morning at ten of Bright's disease after weeks of poor health. Born March 28 1842 in New York he came to this city in 1887 and worked as a carpenter. Survived by wife Elizabeth and four sons Harley Avelinga Arthur Everett, two brothers Frank and Lastie in Spokane and a Chicago relative. funeral Saturday at 2 30 from the mate copst. Also noted C A Gill and wife returning to Wheatland Wyoming with their livestock and farm implements.
