Theodore Burrt of Cheyenne is named Roadmaster for the Third district with headquarters in North Platte replacing N C Peterson who moves to the First district with Fremont as headquarters. Welcome to North Platte Mr Burrit.
Charles RN Allabach announces from the third floor of the Post Office building that Victory medals, awarded by Congress for Army service from April 6 1917 to November 11 1919, are free and available to all entitled veterans. He is working to assist eligible soldiers in obtaining their medals.
Mrs. George Frater president of the Sixth District Nebraska Federation of Women's Clubs leaves for Bayard today as the district convention begins Wednesday noon. Mrs. Chas Dogue district chairman of Home Economics and Mrs. R.K. Cotterell district chairman of Social and Civic Conditions depart tomorrow. Mrs. Wilson Tout and Mrs. Fred Teeter, delegates from the North Platts Twentieth Century Club, depart tomorrow. The convention runs until Friday.
A North Platte youth Eli W Hanson wrote the poem Let’s Go Back Again set to music by Edward Heasselberg of Chicago. Hanson, a North Platte High School graduate, works for Union Pacific. The Tribune notes his private performance but no public use is planned.
Rev H E Hess presided as James Calhoun and Miss Edna Van Emanon were married before only close relatives and friends. The bride wore a satin gown, she has southern roots and ten years with the Wisners, and Calhoun, a World War veteran, prepared a farm home northwest of town. The Tribune offers congratulations and well wishes for the couple. Rev F F W Dick leaves for Lincoln to represent the North Platte Lodge of A O U W at the State Convention as the local lodge reaches about 100 members.
North Platte High School students depart for the State Debate in Lincoln with coach E F Carr leading the team. Debaters Frances Edwards George B Dent Emmet Mooney Clarence F Wright and alternates prepare, with Edwards and Dent aiming for University of Nebraska after graduation and service.
Mr and Mrs O W Sizemore held a silver shower for their son George O Sizemore and Miss Mildred Daly. A large dinner was served and a silver set was given. Guests included Mr and Mrs Simon White Mr and Mrs Talmage White Mr and Mrs I A Airich Mr and Mrs Raymond Miller of Hershey Mr and Mrs Carl Danielson Mr and Mrs Ernest Danielson Mr and Mrs Elmer Ecklund of Sutherland Mr and Mrs W H Daly and Miss Mabel Daly and Ruth Sizemore.
The Lincoln County Chapter of the American Red Cross held a special session to authorize a committee to aid Public Health nurse Miss Chaffin. The move secures backing to extend her school health work across the county, aiding rural districts where doctors are scarce.
On Wednesday evening at 318 W Eighth Street the marriage of Miss Haskins daughter to Lee A Brown took place. Rev W H Moore read the Episcopal service as relatives and close friends attended. The bride wore an embroidered organdie gown and pink snap dragon bouquet. Guests included Mr and Mrs Michael Loftis of Warnestown Missouri. After a wedding supper the couple left for eastern points and will reside with the bride's parents on return.
Lincoln County Farm Bureau members in Payne Precinct will meet at Bignell school house Friday night to organize the precinct bureau. County Agent Kellogg will preside and outline planned Farm Bureau work. Kellogg also spends Friday in McPherson School giving poultry nursing butter fat testing and vaccination demonstrations tied to boys and girls club work.
LODGE and CHURCH events are planned with a Band Concert at Courthouse Square and The Misess Walsh at the Keith Theatre tonight. The Altar Society hosts a social Thursday at Mrs J St Smiths home. Swedish Mission gathers Friday May 13 at 7:30 in Bethel Mission Hall.
Thirty four boys and young men started in the ten mile handicap road race from John Null's bicycle shop on east Front Street. Clarence Frasier won first and set the best time of thirty six minutes and five seconds. Vinc ent Rebhausen finished second and Vergil Atterbury third. The race ends with a new bicycle as the final prize.
Union announces two more trains daily between Omaha and Denver starting the 29th, bringing the total to three round trips Chicago to Denver on this route. Editor HH T Krier of Dawson County Pioneer attends the State Convention. BF Frother Krier chats at the Tribune office. Wim Burger visits Grand Island with reports of rainy cold weather and limited fishing. Rex and Mrs Bellow visit the city Saturday.
John Nolan Merie Richards and Lorenzo Ojeda escaped from Lincoln County Jail around eleven Saturday night. They hid a dummy using utensils, climbed to the roof, then cut through a brick wall with a stove poker. Victor Moss stayed behind, fearing harm to his case. Sheriff Salisbury planned no extra bolt once others left. No trace found at press time.
A Campfire Girls event in Durbin raised about 260 dollars for camp development. The White Elephant Sale, run by the local council, drew steady buyers all week and left many good items unsold at closure.
Last night was business men's night at the Orentz revival meeting with a good audience. Tonight features fraternal night inviting members of other churches and special guests. Wednesday highlights Sentlor High School pupils, and Thursday welcomes Junior High students and teachers. Friday's special group remains unannounced. Block's Millinery offers midsummer sale below cost.
