Twelve young men sat the civil service examination for railway mail clerk in the federal building court room. Two residents of this city and others from Oguialla Rice Maxwell and nearby towns took part. The board included Mrs Lillian Gleagon and Messrs McLain and Tucker from the local post office. An $800 starting salary offers limited entry but potential rises to $1200-$1500 yearly. The department bans publishing examinee names, as in Omaha where 120 took part.
Chief of Police Frazier ordered business operators to remove sidewalk signs by a set date. The deadline passed Friday and all signs and posts were taken down except for overhead electric signs. The city aims for a neater, more citified street appearance, though some merchants resisted.

Arthur County is restored to Nebraska’s map by legislative action. Located north of Keith County and spanning McPherson County’s western area, the county will gain forest reserve openings next October likely boosting population to 3000 to 5000 within a year. Governor appoints initial county commissioners. seat location may spark contest and Union Pacific branch line prospects from Stapleton to Northport face years of delay.
The blue and gray veterans will gather at Gettysburg from June 29 to July 6 with July 1 to 4 activities led by President Wilson on July 4. Trains offer a round trip fare of one and one fifth dollars. Coats feature high buttoning cutaway long backs and walat coats while skirts trend slightly draped and dressy. Presbyterian aid society hosts Thursday parlor gathering and Twentieth Century club is hosted Monday by Mrs. Lena Kelly. North Platte’s Stone's Ice Cream is noted as famous.
