Doctor J Rhodes Longley cited for meritorious service in Russia
Dr J Rhodes Longley former North Platte boy received a war department citation signed by General Pershing for exceptional meritorious service with the American Hospital Corps in northern Russia. He began as a lieutenant later became captain and sailed for Europe then major, served at Archangel as chief surgeon, and returned home July 1919 after over two years in service.

North Platte’s population is reported as 10 468 in a War Department telegram cited by The Tribune. The figure, though subject to revision, suggests the city ranks fifth in Nebraska by population, surpassing Kearney Beatrice Norfolk and Fremont and shows a rise from 4 793 in 1910 to 10 468 in 1920, an increase of about 118 percent. Compensation Commissioner Rules Against City in Police Murders Case

Judge Grimes Sentences Two to the Penitentiary
Judge Grimes sentenced two men, John J D Kean and George M H Cratty, to indeterminate terms in the penitentiary after pleading guilty. Kean faced charges of abducting a pistol from Rasmus Heamusson of Brady, Cratty admitted stealing two suits from the Union Pacific baggage room. Both to report to Lincoln this week to begin serving. Hugo Tottenhof arrived from Columbus to join first baseball practice and will partner with his brother Ed in hog buying for the summer. For sale items include rugs, washing machine, dining table and miscellaneous articles at 809 East Fourth Street. Ralph Vroman, six, underwent appendicitis surgery yesterday.
