April cold snap sets record with low precipitation

The report notes last month was the coldest April since 1876 except for one warmer year, with a mean temperature of 44 degrees versus a 49 degree average. Precipitation totaled 0.72 inches vs 2.04 inches typical, and winds reached 7 305 miles with a max velocity of 48 mph.

Dr Longley Enters Practioners Course at State University

Dr F H Longley of the city has gone to Lincoln to rest from active practice and become a student in the practionera course of the medical department. At seventy six he joins the university he helped organize, having been named to the board of regents in 1869 while in Washington county. He has practiced medicine for fifty three years and lived in North Platte for thirty five years.

Episcopal Guild Benefit at Keith Theatre Mon May 10

The Episcopal guild presents a benefit at the Keith theatre Monday evening May 10 with special pictures The History of Joseph and The Prodigal Son. A notable musical program includes two solos and selections from cantatas plus the hymn Jesus Lover of My Soul with orchestral accompaniment.

Mrs H M Slack former North Platte pioneer dies at her Maxwell home after years of invalidism. Funeral held yesterday forenoon. She leaves four sons from a first marriage, only Maryin Dickinson living locally, others in the west. Several local women attended the funeral.

Benefit entertainment for boys' band at Keith theatre

On Thursday evening the W C T U presents a program at the Keith theatre to support the boys' band. The event features a band selection, prayer by Rev Porter, music, a Mary Stuart scene with impersonations, a Go Way Beckie Go Way recitation, and a costume drama directed by Mrs Ritner. Proceeds fund uniforms for about twenty band members under Prof Garlisch.

Engineers May Party Draws Hundreds at 1888 Event

Between five hundred and six hundred attendees joined the twenty-fifth annual May Party of Division 88, B of L B, at the opera house. Decorations featured electric-lit cylinders and May baskets. Miss Dye won a five dollar prize for her basket design. A concert by Hart's Orchestra and a male quartette preceded a grand march led by J. H. Fonda and daughter Blanche. The event wrapped after 3:30 AM with supper and continued dancing.

Railroad Notes and Local Developments Across Nebraska

Henry Sudman will open a general store at Larden on the Glenburnie Keystone branch. A lumber yard is already established there. Union Pacific bids for grading the second track between Watsons Ranch and North Platte. North Platte branch tracklayers work west of Finley, about twenty miles east of Northport. Last week the usual track was not laid due to material shortages on Friday. Charles McEvoy of the local shops will marry Ellen Kildare of Ogalalla on May 12 at St Patrick's church. They will travel to Ogalalla on train No 11 for a reception at the bride's parents home.
