Liberty Loan Parade Planned for Opening Day in North Platte

The Liberty loan committee voted to stage a city parade and afternoon street meeting on April 6 the campaign opening date. Mayor will be asked to close businesses for the event with Chas G Ryan of Grand Island as principal speaker. The parade will include Red Cross workers Summy Girls cadets boy scouts and farmers and aims for 2000 to 3000 participants. A Franklin auditorium evening meeting may follow with music from local bands.

Red Cross Needs More Help as War Demands Grow

The Red Cross laments a heavy drop in local volunteer turnout at the Red Crow rooms over the past week. Officials attribute the lull possibly to home duties during wartime preparations but urge women in North Platte to devote all possible effort to Red Cross work as Europe-wide battle intensifies.

Bour Coffee Demonstration Attracts Local Interest

A Bour Co representative will join this Saturday to showcase Old Master coffee at Herrod Grocer Kelzlan Relief Goods Shipped reports a Belgium aid drive. Volunteers led by Mrs Walter Kocken coordinated 1840 pounds of usable garments and shoes for the destitute. Seven Lincoln county youths headed to Camp Funston will be honored at a Franklin auditorium send off with music and remarks.

Ford Runabout Carried Fifty Lambs and Chickens in Transit

A Ford runabout owned by Oscar Bolejack seven miles west of town carried fifty motherless lambs in crates, 125 chickens, two incubators, junk, and three passengers in a Wednesday afternoon sighting before The Tribune. The lambs and incubator were mounted on the vehicle, with one incubator on the hood. The cargo had been secured from the C. H. Walter Co.

Allied resolve in face of German offensive near Albert

On day eight of the German drive Allied forces hold firm around Albert. German efforts to split French and British lines falter as British counter pressure and French counterattacks test momentum. By now enemy losses exceed a half million men since the drive began, while reserves await a chance to strike.

Three Great Stars to Speak Here Wednesday

Mary Pickford Charlie Chaplin and Douglas Fairbanks will speak from the Los Angeles Limited observation platform en route to Washington for the Fourth Liberty Loan opening. The trio will tour the state in April, making talks at division terminals and aiding the campaign. Allen Chickering heads the effort with Bennie Zeidman and Carlyle Robinson coordinating advance preparations.

Baptist Church Sets Clock Forward for Easter Services

Boys In Service News From Home and Camp Cody

Jamen Lambert returns home on furlough then goes back to Camp Cody. Sergeant Harold Langford leaves for Camp Cody after a visit. Tom Waugh landed somewhere in planes serving as ambulance driver. Lieutenant Cecil Cool leaves for a Texas camp. Pat McHugh, ex North Platte firefighter now in railroad engineering corps, travels from Vancouver to Fort Leavenworth. The Sunset Trail by Vivian Martin features at Keith theatre with California mountain filming and a cabin fire incident followed by a tree collapse rescuing the star.
