Railroad shopmen seek wage hikes across 25 percent rise
A Washington dispatch says several hundred thousand railroad shop employees have asked the railroad administration for about a 25 percent wage increase. The wages board will hear the case next Wednesday and seeks retroactive pay from January 1. The proposal targets trained workers at 85 cents an hour with proportional raises for helpers and proposes second class workers about 60 cents hourly. Participants include machinists blacksmiths boiler makers sheet metal workers electricians and car men. Rural note mentions farming resuming in Sterling area with farmers plowing.

State aid road bids to be re advertised for 1918 work
County Commissioner Koch met in Lincoln with State Engineer Johnson to discuss readvertising bids for the North Platte to Sutherland state aid road. Chickens Sold by H C Rowe Set Record Purchase
H C Rowe of McPherson County shipped a truck load of Buff Orpington chickens to the North Platte Produce Co. for 474.55 dollars. The average price was 1.46 dollars per fowl. Rowe has 250 birds remaining for this year and the purchase marked the largest single order the company has ever bought from one producer.

Flu Quarantine Updates and Local News in North Platte

In three days ending last evening twelve houses released and fifteen placed under quarantine amid protests by occupants claiming illness is only a cold. Ernest Stincker from the Officers' Material School at the University of Pennsylvania is assigned to the Great Lakes Insurance department. The Great Lakes naval station handles insurance for men from about fourteen states. A north side grocery and confectionery store once owned by Frank Preston, closed after his death, reopened with Perry Loudon in charge until disposal. The Goodman Buckley Trust Company acts as admin.
