The Tribune reports North Platte population at 7 657 including suburbia such as Graceland. Hoffhine’s 1915 tally was 6 650, a 1 002 rise in two years, while a separate note calls for 1 000 volunteers for a parade and recovery rehearsals at the fair grounds. President Wilson proclaims June 23 to 30 as recruiting week for the regular army seeking 70 000 unmarried men.
Hair switches offered by Mrs. W. Hansen at 214 East Fifth Street and switches made from combings. J. N. Baker completed final proof on his Arthur county homestead last week and is in town for the celebration, noted as an old-timer since before 1880.
An attempted liquor smuggling scheme failed as a trunk with 120 quarts of whisky was found in North Platte. Sheriff Salisbury took possession after Sidney officials alerted local authorities. The trunk, shipped from Cheyenne, was held at the jail and the whisky destined for the upcoming celebration was to be disposed of.
North Platte hosts the Baptist Association with seventy five delegates, plans include the Fort McPherson church joining, Glen Echo church building a new home, and a Red Cross banquet to raise Lincoln county's apportionment. Speakers include Rev C J Pope, Dr Jorden, and Rev Clark Bancroft with devotional meetings and a state defense talk.
Mrs Langford travels to Solunbos for several weeks while services, visits, and upcoming events fill the week. Notables include court cases, marriages, and a Queen's ball planning update as shops decorate for visitors.
