McMichael Bros Win Ugat Building Contract at $44,600

Ugat awards the Front Street project for a 49%132 three story building to McMichael Bros with a bid of 44,600. Next lowest bids were 45,000 by F C McMichael and 13,541 for heating by North Platte Plumbing. The ground floor will house a restaurant and lobby, second floor 39 guest rooms, third floor partial completion. Also notes Sammy Girls Theatre week lineup and a taxi parcel delivery sale by C H Spicer.

Registration Board Reclassifies Registrants Under War Plan

The Registration Board will re classify registrants with advisory and federal agents assisting. Classification will shift many men to class two A and B and to class three A B, with self inquiry and possible personal appearances before the board. The effort aims to identify men properly placed as the program seeks nine million armed by August 1 1918.

Railway Engineers Mobilize 66 000 Americans in France Transit

The five new regiments and nineteen battalions of railway engineers will mobilize 66 000 American crews in France for railroad construction and operation. About 9140 000 000 has been spent on railway materials including 1 727 locomotives, 22 680 freight cars, and 859 000 tons of steel rails. Lincoln county reg istrants placed in class one

Forty three Lincoln county men married since May 18 1917 were forwarded to Omaha for district exemption board review. They are reclassified into class one and will likely be called to service within thirty days. Further reclassifications from classes two three and four will push more men into class one as the war nears North Platte and Lincoln county.

Sammy Girls Thank Home Guards for Minstrel Funds

Mrs. John McGraw reports the Sammy Girls raised £498 5s 0d from Home Guards Minstrel receipts with more dollars expected. The group plans expenses not to exceed £80 and thanks participants and the public for support to provide sweaters and comfort kits for the boys.

Furloughs for soldier farmers in training at Camp Funston Kansas are estimated to reach one thousand for the harvest season in Kansas and neighboring states. Most furloughs go to locals within the state. average duration is fifteen days with pay forfeited but earnings of 4.50 to 7 dollars daily in the fields for experienced workers.

Allied Forces Repel Seven German Attacks In France

On the French front the conflict centers on limited German attacks at isolated points near the Matz river and at Xivray east of St. Michiel. American artillery shattered the assaults causing heavy losses. a small party reached Xivray and was wiped out. A raid on the Alance sector Sunday was halted by machine gun and rifle fire. In Flanders the Lys salient endures German artillery pressure with focus on the Ypres-Dickebusch area and the western flank of the salient, where British forces recently advanced locally.

Extending Army Draft Backed by Senate Leader

Senator Chamberlain of Oregon urged extending the draft to men 18 to 45 at hearings on the $1000000000 army appropriation. He said many men over 30 are idle and should be reached. The House committee unanimously approved a provision giving the president power to call all draft-age men who can be trained.
