Victory Medals for Service Men Offer Application Days

The Army appeals to veterans and survivors to apply for Victory Medals at the Federal Building on Friday and Saturday. Officers, enlisted men, Army nurses and field clerks may receive medals with discharge papers. no fee. Relatives of the fallen must contact the Adjutant General in Washington. A Campfire Girls meeting is announced for August 2 at Mrs. Adda Turpie’s home.

Boy Scouts Complete Home Inspections in Cleanup Campaign

The Boy Scouts finished inspecting homes and filed reports. They lacked window cards but will report to the Committee Chairman who is expected to provide cards and ensure everyone entitled to a card is supplied.

Lincoln Highway route through Dunlap to Arnold marked

The Lincoln Highway leaves at Dunlap Iowa and travels north to Arnold then crosses at North Platte and continues through Maywood. The Chamber of Commerce will mark the route to the County Line toward Arnold and work is under way.

Lincoln County Ordered to Show Cause on Farm and Town Lot Valuation

The State Board of Equalization will require Lincoln County representatives to appear at Lincoln to justify the current assessed valuations of farms and town lots. A hearing date set for August is indicated, with officials to explain why the valuations should not be raised.

The Post Office force and ball team plan a Curtis lake picnic Sunday. They will drive over early, fish and bathe in the morning and later a P O Independents team will play Curtis in a baseball game.

The Faust Elm Creek Base Ball team will visit Sunday for a game with the Locals. They have defeated strong eastern state teams, so a good contest is expected. The game will be called at three o clock.

Chamber to Mark Lincoln Highway from North Platte East and West

At a Chamber of Commerce meeting last Tuesday Chairman Dixon was told to hire a man to mark the Lincoln Highway from North Platte east to Maxwell and west to Hershey. The improvement aims to aid tourists as previous signs were damaged or faded.

Local and Personal Notes Move Through Town

Irene Hubbard returned Wednesday from Denver and Frank Herrod also came back from Colorado. Numerous residents, including Suarios Walters, Chas Bogue, Mr Crawford and Mrs Lee Rasmussen, traveled for business or visited friends in town. A baby was born to Mr and Mrs Allen Atchison in Kearney, and Dr Ames along with family returned from Wisconsin. An Army Recruiting visit to North Platte is planned with an officer and field tester to issue Victory Medals.

Plan to Kill the Dandelions in North Platte

North Platte Superintendent W P Snyder urges city action against a dandelion nuisance on lawns and vacant lots. He cites iron sulfate treatment per Bulletin 4648 from New York Agricultural Station, recommending 1.5 pounds per gallon, four to six applications per season, with costs staying affordable and four to five years of suppression possible. He calls for a city committee to organize a large scale program next spring.

Dope Peddler Found on City Streets

A man named Maize of Idaho Fails was arrested Tuesday on cocaine peddling charges and held in the county jail until yesterday. A hype gun and cocaine were found in his shoe and police traced supply to Maize but the arrest ended with release and his shipping out of town due to the buyer's disappearance. The Chamber of Commerce invites unemployed to register and seek free help and labor matches.

Lincoln County Faces Hearings Over Land Valuation Increase

The State Journal notes Lincoln county leaders ex Governor Neville and State Senator Hoagland led a citizens committee to curb valuation hikes. Lincoln county saw an 8 percent rise in land value to 9.23 per acre, below the 44 percent county average.

Hospital Staff Dines With Doctors at Country Club

The General Hospital staff entertained Dr. and Mrs. V. Lucas and Dr. Kerr at a dinner at the Country Club last evening. Ten people were present and a fine dinner was served.
