The Republican State convention is called for August 15 at 11 a m in the city auditorium Lincoln. Lincoln county is entitled to 14 delegates. During the first half of 1922 Cham ber of Commerce grounds costs totaled 38 2 by July 1 with similar expected for the rest of the year.
There are fifteen standard boys and girls clubs in the county with 120 members. Each club offers a standard course in the line of work attempted. County Agent Kelloge regards the club work as a key effort and is giving it much attention.
Active preparations begin for the Lincoln County Pair in September. Directors voted 8 to 2 against the circuit horse races while planning other races by a committee led by Snyder Koch and Elder. Local police magistrate nominations show varied Republican votes. Union Pacific freight moves show a 1 208 car count with 735 loads and 478 empties, a year over year gain despite little coal movement. Miss Pyrtle leads over Mat in state superintendent ballots in Lincoln county.
A caravan of three large auto trucks arrived at the camp grounds last night with fifty boys from Liberal Kansas and five or six men in charge. The thirteen hundred mile trip spans from Pikes Peak to North Platte, led by John W. Ghman who calls it a major but worthwhile effort after three such trips in three years.
The American Legion will sponsor a new Boy Scout troop. Harold D Weise will be scoutmaster with Harry Jones and Wells C Jones as assistant Scoutmasters. R C Cochran chairs the troop committee with Dr J S Simms Jos Souder Paul Harrington and W H Munger named. The unit will follow standard Troop regulations but be led actively by the Legion.
Manager Peterson announces a ball game for next Sunday at Fairgrounds ball park between the Legion team and Eddyville Aggregation. Eddyville recently defeated Elm Creek by a large score and other strong teams have fallen to them. Fans expect a good game.
Scout Executive Stephens uses snakes to teach boys difference between harmful and harmless varieties. A sand viper, though about eighteen inches, is considered harmless but frightens visitors. Garter snakes of several sizes are kept to show their value and protect beneficial species.
In Lincoln county Mrs. Forrest Hutson of Belmont used kerosene to start fires at home as a long practiced method. A recent blaze burned her six year old son who died the next day after being treated with linseed oil and flames were smothered from a tub and a carpet. The Hutson house and all goods were destroyed.
M. B. Possum will be in Lincoln county next Tuesday and Wednesday to instruct the stock judging team and work with boys' and girls' clubs. Also note dress sale at BLOCK'S offering Sport Silk Dress in printed silk crepe and other fabrics from $9.98 while stocks last.
Miss Edith Kempthorn of Campfire headquarters New York City arrives in North Platte late Sunday to address Campfire girls at 10 30 AM at the Lutheran church basement. She will tour the camp grounds that afternoon for a picnic supper hosted by guardians and officials before departing west late Monday night.
John H. Piper regional scout executive visited the city meeting with the Boy Scout council executive committee. He approved a charter for a first class council valid this year and urged enlarging the council scope to cover Lincoln County next year. He envisions a district including four or five counties.
County Agent Kellogg urges all egg production hens be culled by October leaving two months for action. He offers to arrange demonstrations for communities lacking them. In the northeast county, over 100 people attended recent culling demonstrations led by F C Old, poultry specialist from the University Extension department.
