Joe Ples, longtime resident who built up a reputable business through fair dealing, died last Saturday evening at 628 South Cottonwood. He had lived here about forty years and leaves grieving children. The funeral will be held today in the Catholic Church.

If sustained this would yield 7500 dollars to the firm for July. Farmers in the area expect around 20000 dollars in milk and cream receipts for the month. Senior High Principal elected Miss Eile Johnson of San Diego to lead next year with a 2250 dollar salary. Johnson is a Peru State Normal and University of Nebraska graduate.

The library of the late Samuel Riker was sold at Anderson Galleries. Dr A B Rosenbach bought George Washingtons copy of A Collection of All the Treaties of Peace Alliance and Commerce Between Great Britain and Other Powers From the Treaty Signed at Muster In 1784 to Paris 1783. The three volumes bear Washingtons sutograph on each title page and his book plate inside each front cover. The item was part of the Lawrence Washington library sale in Philadelphia in 1876 New York Times.
Basil Mathews argues in the British Review of Reviews that even with ten percent of China's population mobilized, annual casualties could reach a million. He warns that it would take fifty years to destroy the initial army while a new Chinese force of fifty men would emerge to confront the foe.
Lila May Mason daughter of J B and Mary Mason born on a Platte Valley farm in 1905 and died in youth at North Platte. She lived in Plate Valley Hershey and Low four venta areas, attended Crow the grade school, would have entered Jimler High, and was an active Baptist Church member in North Platte.
