Chautauqua Dates Announced For North Platte Week

Chautauqua week is set for August 16 to 21 in North Platte with six days of varied entertainment. Highlights include Lindsay-Frost Company openers, Ned Woodman cartoons, Spanish Girls Orchestra, Mrs. A. C. Zohner lecture, Cheney Concert Company, Jaroslav Cimera and Caecho Slovak Band, Lyric Male Quartet, Gregory Mason lectures, and Dr. Paul W. Ivey talk plus Walee Chautauqua Players comedy Rejuvenation. Details to follow.

Local Notes On Families and Travel From North Platte

Dixon and Son grind their own leases. Mabel Johnson of Fort Dodge visits sister Mrs Payne then leaves Wednesday. Mary Sullivan and Mrs J J Sullivan of Omaha visit en route to Salt Lake. Mr and Mrs C M Newton and sons Donald and Kenneth Whelan plan a Sunday trip to Colorado. Alma Waltemath returns from Estes Park. Holmer Ham has recovered enough to go out after a hospital operation. Willis Todd of Omaha meets with North Platte Light and Power Co. Sam Souder and Geo Gibbs head to Canada for two weeks of business. Christian Science services Sunday at 11 a m and Wednesday at 8 p m. Danger signs to be placed in the South River

Chamber of Commerce directors meet authorize a committee to procure warning signs for dangerous spots in the bed of the South Platte River near the bridge. The committee will survey the area before placing signs and Moran H4 Moran and Hershey Welch are named on the panel.

Chamber of Commerce backs ball team with funds

The Chamber of Commerce approved $400 at a meeting last Tuesday to cover July expenses for the Base Tall Club and authorized up to $500 for August if required. Directors pledged support for a Base Hall Tournament locally, though funds were not expected beyond tournament income.

Miss Sadie Trovillo and Walter J Good were married last Saturday at the Frank Hatch home west of the city by Judge Woodhurst. The groom is a Charleston real estate man with many local friends, and the bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Trovillo, is a talented voice teacher and performer in the city.

Lewellen resident Mary Roberts visits her brother J P Roberts, then returns home at Schuyler. Topeka visitor Straymound Murray stays with aunt Laura Murray this week. The Christian Church hosts a Tuesday gathering with games and refreshments. Ferne Smith hosts a theatre party on Wednesday ending with a three course luncheon for her eleventh birthday. A country club dancing party last night features the Jolly Jay Jazz era and light refreshments.

Picnic in the Wills at Dodgers in the Canyons

The Epworth League held a picnic at Dodgers in the canyons south of the Experimental Station buildings on Thursday evening. A large crowd drove out at 6 30 PM and after supper they played games until dark.

Men and Boys Day Bible School Invites Passersby

Sunday is Men and Boys Day with all men and boys not enrolled in other Bible Schools invited to attend. The school opens at 45 dollars. The pastor will speak on The Fulfilling of the Law in the morning and Following a Vision in the evening.

Sidney Base Ball Team Comes to Local Diamond

The North Platte base ball club will witness two games Sunday and Monday, July 26, 26, as Sidney’s club, claiming top talent from the American League, faces them with a salaried roster. Sidney won 4 to 2 and 2 to 1 in two recent meetings. Munger, the North Platte pitcher, joins to try for a win. First pitch is at 2 o'clock. Julesburg game at 3:30 this afternoon.

Presbyterian Church Plans Annual Picnic at City Park

Sunday school at 10:00 a.m. preaching at 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Young people's meeting at 7:00 p.m. Reception of members at 11:00 a.m. Mrs A P Kelly leaves for Ohio to visit relatives. W K Fowler of Lincoln is in the city on business. The church and Sunday School announce their annual picnic in City Park next Tuesday evening.

Chamber directors propose another booster trip plan

A committee of Moasern Moran Crawford Kelly Porter and Kerr was appointed by the Directors of the Chamber of Commerce at Tuesday’s meeting to plan another booster trip and report later. The committee will meet soon to review the entire situation before reporting.
