Lincoln Highway West expansion plans announced
Forty thousand dollars will be expended this year on the Lincoln Highway between North Platte and Southland, Federal State Aid Project No 10. The project covers 19.1 miles of road with extensive earthwork and culverts at an estimated cost of 99 116.34 dollars plus 3911.63 for engineering. Writing from Camp Funston on Saturday evening Clarence Spicer reports: the company arrived tired but in good spirits after a long train ride via Grand Island and Manhattan with crowds and bands meeting them. Four to five thousand went through the physicals and uniforms. most were assigned to the 87th company 164th Depot Brigade. They are in quarantine and expect about six weeks here while training before deployment overseas.
