South Side Petition Aims to Set Apart from North Platte District

Real estate owners south of the river in the North Platte school district plan to petition the board of education to set apart their territory to avoid extra bond taxes. If granted, bond election dates would shift about thirty days. Past maintenance costs exceeded taxes, but higher last year’s assessed values should cover future costs.

Evening in Dixie at P. E. O. meeting

Members of the P. E. O. hosted a Dixie themed gathering at the Grimes residence on Tuesday evening. Husbands arrived in blackface costumes with hair curling and fancy dress, enjoying a possum centered Dixie dinner and lively stage stunts.

Coroner's jury verdict on Fireman Jesse T. Berry death

The coroner's jury found Jesse T. Berry died from a defective switch rod about seventy-five yards east of the engine site, due to careless and criminal negligence by the Union Pacific Railroad Company. Jurors were farmers George M. The Gothenburg team and the local high school meet at the opera house this Friday at eight o'clock. A strong, fast game is expected under the athletic association which funds the football deficit. Attend to enjoy the contest and support high school athletics.

Work Order Issued for North Platte to Kearney Track Build

A new work order directs construction of an additional rail track between North Platte and Kearney. Work starts at the east end of the bridge as weather permits to ease congestion between the terminal and that station. Grading crews will operate at multiple points from North Platte to Land Watson ranch.

Revival prayer meeting draws forty with twenty nine speaking

A notable week included a prayer and conference gathering where forty attended and twenty nine spoke, some twice. Committees were formed for a public reception on Monday at the Unitarian hall for new members and for the annual roll call and business meeting on Wednesday night February 10. Services next Sunday follow the usual hours with a morning sermon for converts and an evening continuation of the revival.
