A city report claims water rates will not drop despite abolishing the maintenance charge. Water commissioner Hershey Welch notes the $1.20 quarterly maintenance fee was set when coal costs rose and that current coal price trends could allow rate reductions after waterworks extensions boost throughput.
County commissioners last Monday set the annual road work rates: 50 cents per hour for a man and team, 80 cents per hour for a man alone, and 75 cents per hour for dragging with four horses. Ida K. McFarland arrives to lecture at the Methodist church on If Winter Comes. Abe L. Zook heads to Lincoln to refine North Platte Experiment Substation records with Professor Burr. Platte Valley Poultry Association reviews year and plans for the next year.
The Lincoln County Medical Society held its annual meeting on January 24 at the Pacific Hotel. After a 6 o'clock dinner, officers for the coming year were elected including Dr. T. J. Kerr as president and Dr. J. R. McKilahan as vice president.
The Engineers charity ball Wednesday drew dense crowds and strong music from the Musicians Union. Proceeds are expected to exceed 50 dollars. Scouts basketball kept officials busy with rounds of play across troops nine three four five seven and eight, featuring neat uniforms and improving skills. Special sale of ladies and children's knitted caps offered at 25 cents for Friday and Saturday.
County officials report a surge of freight crews in the third district with sixteen at work by January. The board found district court clerk fees totaling 120.30 in excess and sheriff fees amounting to 510.75, both turned over to the county treasurer. Freight car traffic between January 16 and 23 fell 444 from the year before, a sign of a good record. City Physician Selby notes three contagious disease cases in the month two diphtheria and one measles. December had two scarlet fever and one mumps, November one scarlet fever, and October one mumps marking the best four month record on record.
The Buffalo Bill Gun club is constructing a clubhouse on city park grounds with a concrete foundation laid by Edward Walker and framing to follow. The project prepares for a state shoot to be held in May. Judge Bayard H. Payne spoke to the Kiwanis club, praising his Rotary actions and discussing causes of the U S Depression. Exports of grain rose sharply in 1921 over 1920, with corn up over ninety percent and wheat at 280 million bushels. The American Legion game at Legion Hall opened the season, Solvers Place 13 of 14 free throws, final 15 24 Gothenburg Legion win. lineups listed and George Myers refereeing.

State Commander William Ritchie and officials will hold a district meeting of post commanders and adjutants at North Platte on February 10.
