County Superintendent Aileen G. Cochran reports rural school salaries for 1920-21 and 1921-22. Outside North Platte the top monthly pay is 222 dollars, the bottom 76 teachers earn 100 dollars, more than any other figure. Seventy six places cut pay, twenty nine raised, fifty nine unchanged.
Lincoln county residents bought 1853 hunting and fishing licenses in 1921 at one dollar each. Twelve non residents received licenses at ten dollars, and 180 trapping licenses sold at two dollars. Total revenue of 2343 went to Lincoln to fund state game warden protection and propagation efforts.
The Twentieth Century Club met at Mrs. York Hinman's home with community singing and a paper on races in the United States. Leaders reported six months of club work, finances sound, and a $68 donation to Charities to kick off their work, along with updates from night school and cup charities.
Light passenger traffic continues on the Union Pacific with occasional trains not stopping. McDonald State Bank holds its annual meeting electing W. H. McDonald as president and J. B. McDonald as vice president. The UP extension toward Torrington progresses with surveys to connect North Platte with the main line near Cheyenne. Firemen from Columbus join Norfolk-bound crews for the state convention, aiding in planning the next gathering in North Platte. First National Bank also reports its annual meeting naming officers and directors. Licensing notes specify hunting and trapping licenses, with 1922 licenses on sale locally. Court house foundation work and preconstruction preparations proceed, while George H. Kellogg attends farm meetings in Lincoln and Omaha. Presbyterian church will skip services next Sunday but resume the following week with Rev. Patterson.
Advance manager recounts Cornish Beck’s career from child actor in The Lone Wolf and early stage work with Nazimova and Mary Balusco to his current featured role in Sun-Kist at the Keith. Beck, 16, is highlighted for his stage range and connection to Booth Tarkington material. Meanwhile a land sale shows BG Applegate buying Tollie Graves’ 320 acre Chris Schick place near Gannett with March 1 take possession.
A telegram to President Harding from the Joint Parent-Teacher Associations of North Platte Nebraska praises the city’s high school for a large band and football championship and notes the largest adult night school in the United States with 1137 students and 44 teachers led by Mrs. W. V. Hoagland and Mrs. A. L. Lane.
The partnership owning Hotel McCabe was dissolved this week as Harry G. Harken sold his stake to J. L. Mason. Mason, an experienced hotelman, will manage the hotel and aims to maintain the established high standard. The McCabe is regarded as a North Pine institution and the community welcomes Mr. and Mrs. Mason. Read the Bargain Counter list.
A large crowd watched the Durant Prosperity Special as it moved through the local yards after a lengthy photo session. The train carried 100 Pennsylvania cars, each loaded with five Durant automobiles from New York bound for San Francisco, and was pulled by a Union Pacific engine through to Ogden.
George W. Vroman Division No 88 of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers to manage a charity ball for the Associated Charities. Free Legion hall Stamp orchestra and newspaper publicity, tickets at 1 each. Event set for Wednesday January 26 with committees to supply tickets and solicit business support.
