The Tribune condemns spreading Red Cross rumors and confirms a false tale about Mrs. D. T. Quigley of Omaha. The paper urges supporting the Red Cross and condemning unpatriotic rumor mongers. Also reported: a 23 degree below zero cold snap with no wind easing conditions. Cattle shipments to Omaha due to ergot damage rot impacted feet and calf mortality. some animals sold subject to inspection.
Traveling freight men allege the local freight between Julesburg and North Platte is not stopped at the depot for caboose access. The railway commission says it cannot force Union Pacific to land passengers at the depot on local freights but can require a stock train caboose to halt there. Mrs. Francis Snyder of Maxwell dies at 84 after arriving in Maxwell in 1882. Funeral services scheduled this afternoon. RE Brownell of Sutherland buys a Brunswick phonograph. Mrs. Byron Oberst and daughter return from Omaha visit.
North Platte photographer C C Delmore reports from Camp Cody New Mexico that Nebraska boys are well clothed housed and fed with little sickness and high discipline. He notes clean moral conditions and strong police and official efforts to keep lewd elements away. He adds soldiers are cheerful busy and well trained, deserving pride for their homes.

Fred Hanlon’s second stroke leaves him speechless but recovery expected. Smallpox outbreaks prompt detentions. Interest in oil or water in the area sparks discussion of a test hole. A fire alarm at 802 West Eighth Street drew the city fire department to a house where steam from boiling wash led a family to believe a blaze existed. No fire was found, but the crew faced irritation at the misread signal.
