Union Pacific Lowers Freight Rates for Farm Goods
Effective December 27 the Union Pacific announces a new freight schedule cutting rates on farm products. Hay from North Platte to Omaha drops 80 cents per ton and to Chicago 31.40. Corn per hundred pounds down 5 to Omaha and 6 to Chicago. wheat to Omaha down 31.40 per hundred and 6.25 to Chicago. Reductions apply across midwest and east routes after Interstate Commerce Commission action. Farm Bureau led the effort. Three percent more of transportation costs will be saved as the way tax ends December 31.

Royal Neighbors visit as local lodge hosts event
The local Royal Neighbors lodge entertained visiting neighbors with a fig drill and invocation by Rev Moore. Mayor J E Benne gave a welcome, Madeline Blickensderfer played piano, and Edith Snyder read. Mrs Henckle delivered the Royal Neighbors welcome with Mrs Owens replying. Twelve candidates were initiated with prizes awarded to Mrs Ross and Mrs Smith. Neighboring towns Mitchell Chappell Sutherland Hershey Maxwell and a guest from Oregon attended.

County Agent Kellogg Reports Broad Agricultural Efforts
County Agent George H Kellogg forwarded his annual report to Lincoln and Waelling ton detailing Purebred Sires Only with thirty signs shown at five meetings attracting 208 attendees. The report covers crop improvement, pest eradication, live stock disease control, exchanges, poultry demonstrations, seed testing, precinct organization, drainage surveys, and junior club work.

Notices posted at week’s end say Union Pacific shops in this place will not open January 2 and remain closed indefinitely. Many men are typically laid off this time, though some repair work is sent to other divisions. no reopening date is given, with speculation ranging from weeks to months.

Popular North Platte Theater Closes Indefinitely
Manager Hawley closed the Crystal Theater Saturday night announcing indefinite closure. The business has not paid expenses in recent weeks and Hawley expects no near term improvement. He plans to keep Sun and Keith running, and may operate two other local houses if feasible this winter.
