Classifieds note a coal base burner for sale and seek agents for Tuxedo Co Omaha Neb. Socials and installations by Modern Woodmen and Royal Neighbors planned. Local notes report births visits, court moves, insanity hearing, and community events in North Platte area around 1908 with multiple names and places.
The North Platte High School student athletic association, newly organized to promote clean athletics and boost finances, plans a basketball game this evening between the high school team and a former players team. Coaches Cecil Trueblood and Mr Ringer are expected to deliver fast action and strong effort, as the event advances funds from a less successful football season to reduce the deficit.
J. H. Vanclave of Weat 6th St Brick Shop advertises horse shoeing and general blacksmithing with Henry Desler of York Nebr as expert shoer. Prices reduced by twenty five to fifty percent, promise of fast work and a tire setter device, and a call to let them quote before going elsewhere.
Dispatches from Chicago indicate Hill will extend the North Platte valley line from Newark to Bridgeport and then to Billings though the road already exists. Though not stated for 1909, locals expect Burlington engines to reach North Platte within a year. A report claims Henry Geise of Maxwell faced cattle stealing charges and posted a $2,200 bond.
I T S members were entertained yesterday by Miss Marie Von Goetz. Mrs Arthur Hoagland hosts tomorrow for Misses Jennie Scannell and Katherine Kricker. Miss Hannah Kelcher hosts a seven o clock dinner with Miss Chapman as guest. Five Hundred Club hosts tonight at Mrs M Cunningham’s home. Monday Evening Bridge Club holds open house 3 to 6 at Clinton residence. Indoor Picnic Club enjoyed charades and music at Miss Sylvia Watts’ home Tuesday. Rolfe Halligan entertained about twenty guests at high five with prizes to Miss Edith Patterson, George Rannie, and consolations to Miss Geraldine Bare and Carl Abrahamson. Indian Card Club met with Mrs M H Douglas Wednesday. Judge and Mrs J S Hoagland’s thirty-ninth anniversary celebrated with Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, sauerkraut and wienies lunch. Two pre nuptial showers for Miss Ethel Bartley, one at Pixer residence, another at Mr and Mrs Frank Hatch. linen gifts and pink white carnations. Gerald Dever hosted Tuesday at West Fourth Street for Mr Lawrence of St Louis. mind reading and readings charm guests. Victor Halligan performed and other games entertained. guests praised the pleasant evening.
December dispatch reports 150 men armed with guns and dogs hunting a wild animal blamed for nightly stock killings. No capture reported though many were trapped in a circle. Further hunts planned as depredations continue and a son of Nick Kopf was followed by the animal one evening. The creature is described as taller in the front, shaggy, with a small tail hair.
M. Baker, general superintendent of construction for the Postal Telegraph Company, told local representative Harry Walrath that the firm will soon build a direct line from Salt Lake to the Pacific coast.
Revival services begin next Sunday at 11 o'clock in the Baptist church with a serene Cyclone Speaker and gospel singing. The evening service moves to the big hall at the northwest corner of the courthouse at 7 30 sharp with seating for about 400, chairs and stoves arranged for comfort. come early for a seat.
The Welpton Lumber Company plans a new yard at Sutherland to begin operations within weeks. Led by president J. W. Welpton of Ogallala, the firm backs several western Nebraska banks and already operates yards in Keith and Deuel counties.

The board met on December 28 1908 and agreed to donate 100 from the general fund for a tuberculosis exhibit in North Platte. On December 29 1908 the board met with full attendance for final hearing on road No 316 where remonstrators appeared and petitioners failed to appear, resulting in rejection of the petition.
