No Sunday Mail Ends Sunday Mail Delivery In Post Offices

The postoffice bill passed by Congress forbids Sunday mail delivery in first and second class offices forcing closures all day. Local patrons have prepaid box rents through September. Postmaster Davis asked the department whether to enforce the law immediately or wait for the rental deadline. A reply had not come at press time.

Lincoln county Sunday School Convention Biggest Local Assembly

County commissioners convene this week to audit and approve a large accumulation of claims against the county. Disbursing funds now will aid farmers and business men, as money is not scarce but always in demand.

City schools will open on September 9th. Teaching staff who spent vacations out of town will start returning late this week and preliminary arrangements for the new school year will begin next week.

Jacob Meyers Dies After Hospital Operation

Jacob Meyers of the town’s north side died at P. & S. hospital this morning after an operation. He arrived Saturday and his weak condition could not endure the shock. He was a widower with three children. Also Saturday a license to wed was granted to E. M. Smith of this city and Ella Hague of Sterling Colorado.

Kinkaid’s Role Shaping Nebraska Public Land Bills

Lincoln Journal dispatch notes Representative Kinkaid from Nebraska’s Sixth District has authored and influenced numerous public land bills. The list includes a $100,000 resurvey fund, a three year homestead measure, land entry rules for married women, butter water adulteration protections, Fort Niobrara settlement, reclamation entry patents, reduced water rights payments, a forest reserve tree-planting appropriation, and an amendment to place buffalo elk and deer in the state game preserve. He also oversees interior department matters affecting irrigated lands in his district.

Baby born Friday to Glen Miller family in town

A baby girl was born Friday to Mr. and Mrs. Glen Miller of West 2nd Street. The Presbyterian Aid Society planned a church parlor exchange Saturday, September. Tout returned from Oshkosh after leading the Garden County teachers' institute. W. S. Boyce of Grand Island, formerly local, visited over the weekend.
