Local shopper notes arrival of fall garments at Wilcox Department Store and a half price dress sale. Various items include coats and dresses advertised alongside rental housing on Second Street and a busy social calendar.
County commissioners completed work on the 1917 tax levy for North Platte and Lincoln County. The levy rises to 108.48 mills from 97.6 mills to fund bridges and buildings. Lincoln County real and personal property valued at 6,386,690 dollars. North Platte values listed at 1,033,?20.00. The state levy reduced from 6.48 to 0.48 mills.
Robert Dickey Harry Pizer and Lawrence Earhart were arrested Tuesday for exceeding the speed limit and appeared in police court Wednesday. They plead guilty and were fined $5.70 by Judge Sullivan. A. B. Green, a traveling salesman for the Cole car, asked for a one week continuance.
Mr and Mrs John Burke announce the marriage of their daughter Lulu Jessie to Mr Robert Burnett Stanard of Denver. Invitations have been issued and the ceremony is to be held at the Burke home Wednesday evening at o oclock.

Irwin Frost a Sidney contractor was killed yesterday morning when his automobile was struck by train No 6 while crossing a rail line west of Chappell. The car was demolished and Frost was thrown from the vehicle onto the engine pilot. The engineer and fireman heard the whistle as they approached. Frost leaves a wife and two children and was formerly a real estate agent in Fairbury.
At a Wednesday meeting the Christian congregation extended a call to Rev T A Lindenmeyer of Houstonville Illinois to lead the local church. He has conducted successful meetings here for ten days and will assume duties September 1.
Joseph Weeks arrived from Grand Island to visit relatives. Fred Elliott left for Lincoln and Omaha to visit his sons. Dr. Marie Ames went to Mr. Carroll to visit relatives for a week. Mrs. John M. Vernon and baby departed for Grand Island to visit relatives. T. L. Green headed to Cheyenne to mix business and pleasure. Ruth Shaner left for Maxwell after visiting sister Mrs. Noman Connolly. Miss Douglas has resigned at the Brooks studio. Master Harris Redfield left for Lewellon to visit relatives. Mrs. D. Short of Chicago, long noted by local friends, departed. Mrs. Ira LeMaster and children of Denver came to visit. John F. Monroe returned home from two months in Brooklyn with relatives. Mrs. Edward Parks of Peoria, formerly Miss Gertrude Peale, visited yesterday while en route home from western points.
