City Fire Department resigns after hall defeat. council acts
A Tuesday fire department meeting unanimously approved resignations after the defeat of the city hall proposal. Chief Bowman presented the written resignations to the city council and stated the force would stay temporarily if quarters were provided and pay per call offered. The council instructed the fire committee to hire four paid men, buy a fire wagon team, and secure quarters, with the department likely to remain under a compromise. Five thousand dollars from a five mile levy should cover expenses. additional funds could be sought if needed.

Gas strike causes pipe burst in Perkins County well
In northern Perkins county Witthuhn Bros. struck gas while drilling for E. Speits near north Madrid at depth of 20 percent feet. The gas lit by a match produced a blue flame and blew out the pipe length, requiring new pipe and a fresh well to continue. No valuation yet on the find. Also notes visits, job ad, weather, a church carnival planned for Sept 11, a D of H meeting, and the death of B F Parsons at eighty six.

Colonel C J Bills of Lincoln paid 150 dollars for Isham the famed white horse once ridden by Buffalo Bill Cody at a United States district court bankruptcy sale of the Buffalo Bill Wild West show. Carlo Miles briefly bid to 150 dollars while planning to donate the horse to Cody. City council hears $500 claim for sidewalk collision injuries
