Wheat Yield Drops Across Lincoln County Farm Fields

Threshing in Lincoln county shows wheat yields far below normal. Across multiple fields the average hovers around eight to nine bushels per acre with several areas under five bushels. Nebraska Department of Agriculture confirms eight bushels in Lincoln and Frontier counties, nine in Keith, and fourteen in Perkins.

Man seeks permit to build commercial airplane hangar

Lawrence Enzminger plans to obtain government permission to construct a hangar on the federal landing field for his aircraft and those of Charley Sluder Noel Bullock and others planning to buy planes. If denied he will pursue an alternate site.

Secretary of Good Road Als'n Visits North Platte

Clements of Lincoln field secretary of the Nebraska Good Road Association spent a day in North Platte this week. He met with the Chamber of Commerce and other boosters to seek public opinion on road measures for the next legislature. He discussed gasoline tax matching dollars with the federal government and license money distribution by the county. A district meeting may be held later this year in North Platte with delegates from six counties.

Rincker and Newton Change Premises on Dewey Street

A November first relocation shifts Newton Book Store to the former Crystal Theatre space and Rincker Drug Co to Newton’s vacated room in the Schmalzried building. Rincker will occupy both floors and release the second floor. Status of a new Rincker tenant for the vacated room is not yet announced. Judge Woodhurst sentenced Dutch Elias to ten days for provoking an assault on Chas. McNeal, with three days already served. Elias appealed to the district court with £200 surety posted.

Union Pacific Cuts Eight Trains in Labor Curta ilment

Union Pacific reduced passenger service by removing two westbound and two eastbound trains effective yesterday. Second sections of Nos. 19 and 20 will be dropped, while first sections absorb their traffic. Trains 7 and 8 linked to Los Angeles via Salt Lake remain, and Portland trains Nos. 19 and 20 are affected. Ten crews lose work, four engine crews affected. Officials cite labor troubles and hope the curtailment is temporary.

Modern Woodmen Initiate a Large Class in North Platte

The Modern Woodmen Camp in North Platte, formed thirty four years ago, revived activity Monday evening by initiating thirty or more candidates as deputy grand officers assisted. Royal Neighbors provided refreshments afterward. William Burgers left Wednesday for Grand Island after attending Zella Doram’s funeral. Mr and Mrs John Herrod and Mr and Mrs George Tekulve visited Mike McFadden's north of Paxton on Sunday.
