Town Folks Take Short Trips and Visitors Lounged

Company E Orders to Leave Cancelled in Transit Mixup
At noon Captain P R Halligan received orders to move Company E to Ft Deming within 24 hours. The unit prepared 300 pounds bread and other rations but the orders were cancelled the next afternoon and the perishable food sold. Mess fund treasurer Harold Langford ordered gum tobacco and candy totaling 127 dollars held until departure.

Lincoln County Fair Set With Expanded Exhibits and Races
Lincoln County's Fifth Annual Fair, hosted by the Agricultural Society from September 26 to 29, features larger exhibits, upgraded race facilities, and a diverse program including horse, auto, and motorcycle races. Curt Galyean of Grand Island and J MacClemmons of Wheyennk, Union Pacific agents, here on business. A freight and fruit train wreck at Sparks Nevada disrupted No 20. through sections of Nos 7 and 10 ran as part of No 4. Marines from Mare Island routed to Philadelphia via No 20 with over two hundred men welcomed by Company E. Union Pacific to pay employees bi monthly starting Sept 1. July paychecks issued and August half payments on Sept 15. Car department and shop crews won a two cent per hour raise Aug 1, lifting payroll about 2000 to 37000 for the past month.
