Billy Sunday will speak at 2:00 PM Thursday at a tent on First and Dewey with seating for 8,600. A large choir with an orchestra and two pianos will perform before the address starting at 1:00 PM. The meeting plans are complete and expected crowds may exceed tent capacity.
Wheat declined five cents in Chicago trading. Local items report rentals, travel, visits, and family news including Ottenstein's double store room for rent after January 1. Notables travel to Sterling Omaha Oshkosh Pine Ridge, a surprise party for Mrs Clyde Giddeon, and telegrams about Nels Hammer’s critical cancer condition in Omaha. Also two farm offerings: 160 acre improved farm 7.50 per acre and house with two lots 1200. Telephone linemen upgrade North Locust Street with two thousand feet of cable.
Deputy Sheriff Wilson tracked Bob Canady to Mason City Nebraska on a wife desertion charge. He left behind a wife and three young children in destitute circumstances and had worked as a cook at Hotel McCabe earning 100 dollars a month. The deputy plans to return tonight with Canady.
A reception last evening at the I. C. O. F. hall honored Lincoln county teachers attending the institute. About 150 guests enjoyed a Stamp orchestra and lectures by Prof. Hunter of Lincoln Dr. Winship of Boston and Miss Alice Hennigan of Lincoln. The hall featured palms and flowers. refreshments followed.
The annual Lincoln County Teachers Institute opened yesterday forenoon with more than one hundred in attendance. Arrival last evening and this morning increased numbers as practically every county teacher attends. An efficient corps of instructors leads the program managing the sessions.
The ladies of the Christian church will host a supper in the church basement next Thursday at 5 30. Menu includes fried chicken mashed potatoes corn on cod creamed turnips alice d cucumbers bread and butter apple pie and coffee for 35 cents. The public is invited. Mr McCormick and Miss Orr of Lewellen were married yesterday afternoon in the Peterson house parlor. Dean Bowker performed the ceremony. The groom is a ranchman in Garden County and the bride had taught music. They returned to Lewellen this morning.
The column records miscellaneous local happenings including Wilcox Department Store selling ice cream for 26 cents a quart, visits by Joe Pollsticker of Dickens to F. C. Pletattcker, and various travel and social plans. It notes county commissioners in session, a Lost-Letter ad, an auto trip to Bates Park, and a cement mixer crew strike over pay for eight hours. Local residents visiting relatives in Denver Waterloo Sioux Missoula Laramie Maywood.
Will Otten Charley Beecher and George Voseipka were arrested twelve miles south of town for killing twenty one prairie chickens out of season. A game warden complaint led to the arrest after wardens observed the men drop coats and throw birds from a car. They faced Judge French and were fined one hundred five dollars for the birds and hunting counts.
The threat of a rail employee strike eased after a plan to refer the dispute to a federal arbitration board. The board found no side ready to concede and the issue was then sent to the president who would decide if a feasible settlement exists after further talks with both sides. A neutral-arbitrator proposal was reportedly considered. The Seeberger and Douglas families enjoyed a country club picnic with Bob Douglas as chef while Miss Isabelle Doran traveled to Broken Bow to visit friends.
City and county news recount social visits in Omaha and surrounding towns. Emma Rudat returns from Omaha, Miss Mabel Martin travels to LeMoyne, a Catholic ladies sale is planned at W. R. Maloney home, Phillip Pent visits from Council Bluffs, Sarah Bernardt performs in Jeanne Dore at the Keith, Frank Distel leaves Huffman Cigar Co. for Schwaiger, Rowena Circle meets at Lloyd opera house, Misses Fitzpatrick travel to Columbus and Genoa, Miss Helen Jeter to Berkeley and Miss Beryl Jeter to Los Angeles high school, Mrs Jeter accompanying to Cheyenne.
State of Nebraska Lincoln County McDonald cashier swears the attached bank statement is correct and a true copy of the report presented to the state authorities. Directors B McDonald and SHAS McDonald confirm the document as accurate. Notary Strauss signs and seals with expiry May 11 1902.
