Lincoln County spends 172973.50 on education with 19000 residents, about nine dollars per capita and over thirty one dollars per pupil annually. Indebtedness sits at 174375 with 386000 in property value and 150 schools. 230 teachers served 557 pupils as seven new buildings rose last year per County Superintendent Gantt.
Every man who has enlisted in the Army or National Guard or who was drawn in the draft should provide for his wife, mother, sister, or business by taking out an Old Line Life Policy. Washington dispatches say one third of eligible draftees will be called September first with mobilization camps set September fifth to sixteenth. The first call may total 229000 men with Lincoln county quota around thirty eight or forty men. The remaining two thirds will be summoned as capacity allows at concentration camps. M K Barnum, ex foreman at the terminal, now motive power superintendent on the Baltimore and Ohio line, is due in North Platte today for a brief visit. The Hub promotes its fall hats and has received a fine fall millinery piece.
Herbert Newman will head manual arts and mechanical drawing in the high school. Miss Iva Layton leads household arts cooking and sewing. Miss Ina Diener will teach intermediate trades rooms. Miss Dorothy Buck joins junior high for history. Miss Viola Myrburg to teach an intermediate grade position.
Workmen prepare to relocate the Ames monument, a pyramid sixty feet square and high, erected thirty seven years ago for Oakes Ames and Oliver Ames. It will be carried by wagon to a new site west of Storman station as a new railroad line is built. Wedding, club and social notes follow in local items.
The Nebraska brigade of 6,000 men is ordered to entrain for the Deming concentration camp in New Mexico. Entrainment dates vary with transport orders held by Major James W. Heldt. Lasts by Aug 10 or later, with last units leaving Nebraska within a week.
Local notes include three Episcopal services with Archdeacon Bowker officiating and a thirty year old Milford Mass man James MacCann held on a $500 bond after being arraigned in Sidney for statutory charges. Also listed are community notices, weather, county tractor show plans, obituaries, and assorted city personal items.
Last night the four hundredth Rosomation anniversary was opened by a service at the Methodist church with Rev. Dr. Baltzly of Omaha delivering a strong address on the world impact of the Reformation. The evening featured special choir and orchestra. Today at noon a picnic and basket dinner will be held at the city park followed by talks by Prof. Kreuger and Rev. Borgin. The municipal band plans an afternoon concert. Tonight at the Methodist church Rev. Hoover of Carthage, Nichols, will close with a talk on Reviving the Reformation, with special music by the choir and orchestra.
