The Chautauqua opened in the city with large ticket sales totaling about 1400 dollars. over 1600 attended the Sunday Bryan lecture drawing 477.50 in gate receipts outside season tickets. Audiences enjoyed Irish music by Kil Sarneys and Rita Rich, Schulz Robbing Musical Artists, Ned Woodman, the River Sisters, Dr B T Hagerman, Sid ney Landon in impersonations, Glenn Frank, Opie Reed, and other notable performers.

Street Drainage Improvements Under City Supervision
Street improvements in the east part of town aimed at drainage. Ditches were deepened and culverts installed under the supervision of Street Commissioner Salisbury and City Engineer McNamara. Fourth and Fifth streets are fully drained, with a ditch from Duck Pond to a slough feeding the river. Sixth street drainage will extend to town limits. The council ordered a city grade line established for future street and ditch work. East Eighth graded to handle local water, West Ninth opened into Bellevue addition. C street graded last year and praised as one of the best streets. work on B street will begin to match the same standard.
