Dozens of Knights Templar commanderies will send special trains east to west through North Platte on Sunday and Monday. Bar Association to Be Formed by Thirteenth and Seventeenth District Attorneys
On August 27 a meeting of attorneys from the Thirteenth and Seventeenth judicial districts will be held in this city to organize a bar association for lawyers in the two districts. Judge Grimes directs the Thirteenth district and Judge Hobartt of Scotts Bluffs presides over the Seventeenth. More than twenty counties are in the districts. The goal is to foster professional and social ties among the attorneys. All lawyers have been notified and about thirty are expected to attend.

City tennis tournament narrows to Halligan Munger Birge Otten

State tax increase hits Lincoln county levy
The state levy taxed against Lincoln county for 191% is $41,608.40, up from $26,685.82 in 1912, an increase of about $15,000. Officials attribute the rise to rapidly growing state expenses while property values grow slowly, a development not welcome to taxpayers already overburdened.

North Platte Handles Omaha In Opening Game
North Platte defeated Omaha 7 to 1 as they backed McClure with nine safeties. Omaha managed three hits and a lone run in the fifth on Vanous two bagger and a passed ball. Lexus boys followed with a 3 to 6 loss in the afternoon contest.

City Levy Passed in Adjourned Council Meeting
The city council, in an adjourned session last night, adopted the levy and appropriation ordinances. General fund five mills, street lighting three, sewer bond interest two, five department five, library fund one and a half, park fund half, sewer flushing one and a half, and water works interest three mills were levied. Mrs Eva Baldwin of Lincoln honored, and Mrs Helen White hosted twenty guests for a pleasant gathering and lunch at six. U S Civil Service Commission announces open competitive exam Sept 30 1918 for stenography and typewriting. Numerous social visits noted including out of town guests from Lincoln Chicago and Detroit, plus local injuries and travel announcements. Ball games at Ogalalla and Sutherland cancelled. Tragedy in the Yards Claims Union Pacific Worker
Carly Wilson a Union Pacific employee was killed in the west end of the yards last evening at 8 30 while coupling cars. Death was instantaneous and he left a wife and six children ages 22 to 4. Funeral plans and services are pending with Rev Knowles to lead. Wilson and his family had moved from Illinois two years ago and leave many friends grieving.
